MISSION HILLS — McPherson’s Jacob Lackey, who is leading the points race for Kansas Junior Amateur Golfer of the Year, will be in the field of 144 beginning Tuesday in the Kansas Men’s Amateur at Kansas City Country Club.
Lackey, who next month heads to Oklahoma as he’s signed to played for the University of Central Oklahoma, tees off at 8:50 a.m. Tuesday on No. 10 with former Maize standout Kale Reynolds and Tripp Walsworth of Leawood.
That trio then plays together again on Wednesday, going off at 1:20 p.m. on No. 1.
The field is then cut after two rounds for match play that begins on Thursday.
Lackey won the Kansas Junior Amateur last month at Turkey Creek, shooting a 68 in his final round.
In last year’s men’s event, Lackey shot rounds of 76 and 77 to make match play. He then played 2015 champion Sam Stevens in the first round, losing 4 & 2 despite shooting 1-under-par.
