16U softball team 18-9 on the summer

It’s been a busy summer for the McPherson 16U softball team.

The Lady Express are 18-9 on the season.

The team opened with a third-place finish in the Shawnee Hawaiian Hitfest and was third the following weekend in Manhattan.

The team took first in the VIP Summer Blast Tournament in Abilene.

At state in Kansas City, McPherson took seventh place.

This past weekend, the Lady Express competed in the ASA Heartland Series College Showcase. The team finished 4-2 on the weekend.

A summary:

• Wichita Sluggers 5, Lady Express 4 — Haley Miller and Addie Fitzmorris drove in two runs apiece. Fitzmorris pitched, fanning three in five innings.

• Lady Express 7, Wichita Impact Futures 5 — Fitzmorris drove in three runs, while Miller had two hits and scored three times. Teegan Krol drove in two runs. Three pitchers worked, including Fitzmorris, Krol and Katelyn Guffey.

• Lady Express 7, Lady Hawks 2 — Halle Giddings had two hits and two RBIs  to pace the attack. Krol and Fitzmorris added two hits. Fitzmorris was the winner.

• Lady Express 7, G2 Henderson 3 — Miller had two hits and two runs scored, while Krol drove in two runs. Fitzmorris had another consistent game on the mound.

• Lady Express 4, Video Dolls 0 — Fitzmorris tossed a four-hit shutout and offensive support came from Jacyi Mastre, who had two hits, scored two and drove in two.

• Renegades Gold 9, Lady Express 5 — McPherson lost despite pounding out nine hits, two by Miller. Mastre had two RBIs. Fitzmorris took the loss.
