McPherson High senior Mandi Cooks underwent surgery on Monday in Wichita after suffering an Achilles injury during a recent basketball tournament in Texas.

Cooks was expected to be an All-State player in both volleyball and basketball and was a state champion high jumper her sophomore year. She missed her junior year in the high jump due to a separate injury

MHS coaches Christy Doile and Chris Strathman said that Cooks is expected to be sidelined for a minimum of six months, which means she’ll miss all of the volleyball season. Strathman said Cooks will definitely be out the first half of the basketball season and her return will depend on how quickly her rehab comes along.

Both coaches said they were heartbroken for Cooks, noting she has worked hard to have a banner senior season.
