DODGE CITY — McPherson’s Jacob Lackey and Andover’s Zach Sokolosky waged a tremendous battle on Thursday in the second round of the Kansas Junior Match Play Golf Tournament which was for the Top 16 players in the state.

Lackey, who had won his first-round match earlier in the day, made a birdie on No. 17 to send the match to an 18th hole, but Sokolosky held him off for a 2-up victory.

Sokolosky, from Andover, was the Class 5A state champion this past school year, while Lackey outlasted him last month at Turkey Creek to win the Kansas Junior Amateur Championship.

Lackey plays Salina’s Cole Elmore in the consolation round on Friday.
