Lackey finishes 3-1 at match play event

DODGE CITY — McPherson’s Jacob Lackey won his final consolation match on Friday in the Kansas Junior Match Play Championships at Mariah Hills.

Lackey outlasted Topeka’s Parker Beal 1-up to finish the day 2-0 and was 3-1 for all his matches.

Lackey was the No. 1 seed at the start of the tournament.

Tyler Larsen of Garden City, the No. 2 seed, defeated Emporia’s Gentry Scheve 2 & 1 to win the championship.

Lackey qualified for the eight-man Kansas Junior Cup Team that also includes Larsen, Grant Herrenbruck, Tate Herrenbruck, Jack Lee, Sion Audrain, Ryan Bender and Zach Sokolosky.

The team competes next month against Nebraska at the Awarii Dunes Golf Course.
