McPherson College cross country coach Cameron Magnall isn’t a big believer in preseason polls, even the one that has his Bulldog men ranked a lofty No. 3 in the KCAC and his women at No. 9.
“The polls are just the finish from last season's KCAC meet, so I would not consider them accurate,” Magnall said. “Our goals are a Top 2 finish for the men and a Top 4 finish for the women.”
The Bulldogs put in plenty of miles last week as they tuned up for their season opener Sept. 1 at Hutchinson.
“We had a very productive first week with below normal temps for this time of year,” Magnall said. “We had a very good time trial on Friday.”
Magnall said that with any first week, the returners are what he expected and some new runners may make their mark.
“My returners all came back in very good shape,” said Magnall, who has an All-KCAC preseason runner on the men’s side in Jonathan Dominguez. “Newcomer Kevin Boeckman from Wamego looks to be a strong contributor as a potential No. 5 runner for us. Cassandra Valenzuela, from Fort Worth, Texas, is a freshman that could make a strong push for a Top 3 spot on the team.”
