The Wichita Eagle has picked McPherson High’s football team to finish third in AVCTL Division III, which no doubt will give the Bullpups some motivation.

The Eagle’s Taylor Eldredge, their outstanding prep writer, goes with Buhler to win D-III, followed by Maize South and MHS. Buhler is ranked No. 2 in Class 4A Division I by CatchItKansas, with MHS No. 3 and Maize South No. 4.

The Bullpups, ironically, play at Buhler to open the season and then go to Maize South the following week.

Augusta is picked No. 4 in D-III by The Eagle, followed by Andover Central, Winfield and Circle.

McPherson High doesn’t play Andover Central this season.

Also, The Eagle has Hesston picked No. 2 in the Central Kansas League behind defending Class 4A Division II state champion Pratt. Smoky Valley is picked in a tie for fifth in the CKL.

In the Heart of America, Eldredge picks Moundridge and Inman to finish sixth and seventh, respectively. Sedgwick is his choice to win the title.
