The second year of the Jessica Cleveland era gets under way tonight for the McPherson College volleyball team.

And it’s a tough act to follow.

All the Bulldogs did in Cleveland’s first year was break the school record for victories in a season (21) and advance to the KCAC Final Four.

The Bulldogs kick off their campaign by traveling to Missouri to take on Stephens College at 7:00. They tuned up on Wednesday by scrimmaging against Hesston College.

“It was fun to play a junior college team to get everyone one last chance to evaluate before we establish a lineup,” said Cleveland, formerly the head coach at Hesston. “With 10 freshmen, a lot of them got to see court time and strong chance to make an impact on the starting varsity court. I think we have raised the talent from last year and things are overall competitive in the gym. They are pushing each other to accomplish one goal —win.”

The Bulldogs will also play on Saturday in Fayette, Mo., against Central Methodist University. Starting time is 11 a.m.

Mac begins KCAC play on Wednesday hosting Sterling, with starting time 7 p.m. at the Sport Center.
