Andover would appear to be the toughest team in McPherson High’s volleyball pool when the AVCTL Preseason Tournament is contested Saturday in Hutchinson.

And that’s the team MHS opens with at 8 a.m.

“Andover returns four juniors that were All-League,” said MHS coach Christy Doile, whose team is coming off a seventh straight appearance in the state tournament. “Best team in our pool. They lost in the sub-state finals with lots of junior starters.”

MHS also plays Campus and Dodge City. Doile said Campus graduated its best player, while Dodge City struggled greatly last year.

Teams will be placed accordingly once pool play is over. There are three pools of four.

Doile has eight players vying for starting spots. They include Elle Barrett, Michaela Bowers, Andrea Sweat, Cassie Cooks, Kenzie Goering, Jaycee Burghart, Meghan Smith and Bailea Crist. Burghart is being counted on as the primary setter, while Crist is a libero.
