LINDSBORG — It was a tough way to open the season.

Bethany College’s men’s soccer team battled with Doane University on Sunday, losing a difficult 4-3 overtime decision at Anderson Field.

The game was tied 1-all at the half, with the Bethany goal by Lucas Muckley, assisted by Jarron Brown.

Bethany went up 2-1 in the second half on a goal by Mateo Agudelo. After the Tigers tied it, Bethany again surged into the lead on a goal by Etienne Kohler, assisted by Muckley.

But Doane answered late and then won the game in extras with a golden goal.

“Our guys gave a great effort today, but a few mistakes at critical times resulted in us coming up short,” Bethany coach Shane Taylor said. "We missed a few chances to secure the win. This is not uncommon for this time of year and these areas we will be improving starting tomorrow."

Bethany travels halfway across the country next weekend for a pair of games in Florida, going up against Warner Robbins on Saturday and then Webber International on Sunday.
