Jacie Myers took second place at No. 1 singles to highlight the performances by the McPherson High JV tennis team in its invitational here Tuesday.
Myers went 4-1.
Also for the Bullpups, the No. 1 doubles team of Cheyann Williams and Madison Schmidt went 4-1 for third, while Caitlyn Faulk and Jensen Mierkiewicz were 1-4 for 10th at No. 2 doubles.
Buhler won the title with 54 points, followed by Campus (35) and MHS (33).
Other scores were Salina Central (32), Smoky Valley (31), Valley Center (24), Elyria Christian (24), Great Bend (17), Hutchinson (10) and Hesston (7).
“Terrific day,” MHS coach Tyler Brown said. “We had excellent weather and couldn't ask for a better day. Considering we don't have a full JV team and took third place out of 10 teams, I was very pleased. Jacie Myers was on point, going undefeated in pool play but losing in the championship to (Elyria Christian’s) Makenzie Archer, who has a great opportunity in being a state qualifier in 3-2-1A. Our No. 1 doubles had a tough loss to Buhler in pool play that went on to win it. But other than that one loss they were terrific in finishing the day 4-1 and getting third. Our No. 2 doubles played with grit and toughed it out to get 10th.”
