ABERDEEN, S.D. — McPherson College’s men’s soccer team was edged 3-2 on Monday by the University of Providence of Montana in the second day of the Presentation College Invitational.
The Bulldogs were down 2-0 at the half before finally starting to get untracked. Christopher Kelly scored Mac’s first goal off an assist by Marcus Brasley to cut the lead in half.
But Providence went up 3-1 before Kelly scored an unassisted goal with 11 minutes to go to slice the deficit to 3-2. Mac, though, could not get the equalizer.
After being out-shot 14-8 in the first half, Mac totally dominated the second half with a 14-3 advantage, but the final 22-17 edge in shots did not result in a win. Brasley did hit the crossbar with an attempt with 5 minutes left in the game.
Jose Alonso had 5 saves in goal for Mac.
The Bulldogs, now 1-2, are home on Saturday to take on Columbia College, which like Mac received votes in the NAIA preseason national poll. The action begins at 3 p.m. at The Kennel.
