HUTCHINSON — The McPherson College cross country teams opened their seasons Friday night at the Terry Masterson Twilight Classic hosted by Hutchinson Community College at Fun Valley Sports Complex.

Weather impacted both races with the women's 3-mile event being delayed 35 minutes due to lightning. In the men's 4-mile race, the runners were pulled from the starting line just prior to the start of the race due to lightning in the area and, once the race began, runners faced a steady shower.

Ane' Archuleta was the first Bulldog across the line in the women's race with a 44th-place time of 21:05.74.

Taylor Dreiling was next to finish in 52nd place (21:40.70), while LeaAnn Myers was 58th (21:54.71).

Jesse Freeman was the top McPherson finisher in the men's race, placing 27th in 22:24.35. He was followed by Jonathan Dominguez, who used a late sprint to finish 28th in 22:27.90.

In the team races, the McPherson men took sixth of 12 teams with 166 points, while the Bulldog women were ninth of 10 teams with 217 points. Fort Hays State captured both team crowns with 24 points in the women's race and 26 in the men's race.

McPherson returns to the course Saturday at the Sterling College Warrior Fest Invitational at Sterling Country Club in Sterling.
