OMAHA — McPherson College’s volleyball team split its two matches on Saturday in the College of St. Mary-Grace Invitational, but still finished the two-day junket with a 3-1 record.
The Bulldogs won a thrilling five-setter from Mayville State, with the deciding set going overtime as the Bulldogs prevailed 16-14.
Mac also won the second and third sets by scores of 25-15 and 25-16 and nearly closed it out in four, but Mayville outlasted Mac 28-26 in the fourth set.
Mady Woog (16), Leia Seiler (12) and Devrie Sombers (11) were the kill leaders. Kaitlyn Heines and Morgan Little registered 33 and 27 assists, respectively, and Rianne Richard (24), Jamie Siess (22) and Lexi Kite (20) all had at least 20 assists.
That match may have taken some spring out of the Bulldogs’ step as they couldn’t close the weekend 4-0 by being blanked by Briar Cliff, 18-25, 16-25, 18-25. The Chargers are now 9-0 on the season as they were quite formidable.
The only noteworthy stat from this match was 22 digs by Seiss, while Kite added 17. No Bulldog had double digits in kills or assists.
Mac is now 5-3 overall and comes back home to take on York College on Wednesday, with the action starting at 7 p.m. Mac is 1-1 in the KCAC.
