McPherson High’s cross country team has been a gracious host in recent years.

But for once, the Bullpups would like to be selfish and win their own meet.

The annual meet at Rolling Acres, which also includes a middle school meet, is set for Thursday.

Both the MHS boys and girls have shown improvement, with the girls probably having the best chance to win a title.

“Our goal is to win this meet,” Bullpup coach Aspen Lott said. “We have placed well in the past at our home meet and I'm expecting nothing less this season. There will be some outstanding athletes from multiple teams Thursday. The kids' focus is to push each other to get as many in the Top 10 (times) as possible and score enough points to take the meet.”

MHS will compete against Buhler, El Dorado, Hays, Hutchinson, Maize, Salina South and Wichita Heights.

Middle school teams joining the Bullpups are Hays, Hutchinson, Maize South, Newton, Prairie Hills, Salina Lakewood and Salina South.

Here is the schedule:

• 3:15 — 7th girls

• 3:30 — 7th boys

• 3:45 — 8th girls

• 4:05 — 8th boys

• 4:30 — HS JV girls

• 5:00 — HS JV boys

• 5:30 — HS varsity girls

• 5:50 — HS varsity boys
