TOWANDA — McPherson’s ninth-grade volleyball team tuned up for Saturday’s Buhler Invitational by splitting a triangular on Thursday.

MHS lost a tough three-setter to Circle (18-25, 25-23, 13-15) to open the day.

“Circle game started out a little rough after missing kids all week from sickness and injury,” MHS coach Danica Fitzmorris said. “We did bounce back, but could not edge out Circle.”

The Bullpups also went three sets with Mulvane, but this time won the decider 15-7. Mulvane was a 25-18 winner in the first set, but MHS evened it up with a 28-26 nailbiter.

“Game two was a squeaker also against Mulvane, but we somehow won game two after being down by 12 in the set and coming back to win it,” Fitzmorris said. “Our bench should be recognized tonight for starting the energy. This is something a team can completely control and should be something we always bring to the court, but our team needs to become more disciplined in doing so.”

MHS is now 11-5 on the season.
