Mac men harriers win another title

MARION — The McPherson College men's cross country team placed four runners in the Top 11 to capture the Tabor Invitational title Saturday morning on the Cottonwood Point course at the Marion Reservoir. It was the second straight team crown for the Bulldog men. The McPherson women finished sixth overall.

Jerod Fuller was the Bulldogs' top finisher in the 8-kilometer men's race, placing third in 28:10.44 behind a pair of runners from Northwest Kansas Technical College. Jonathan Dominguez was fifth in 28:17.47, followed by Jesse Freeman in seventh (28:47.80) and Casey Zimmerman in 11th (23:33.24).

Felix Cervantes in 21st place (30:21.83), Kevin Boeckman in 46th (33:26.19) and Alex Schuetz in 56th (37:21.18) rounded out the McPherson contingent.

McPherson tallied 36 points to outpace MidAmerica Nazarene (56) for the team title.

In the 5K women's race, Samantha Nelson was the first Bulldog across the line. She finished 31st in 22:37.47, followed by Taylor Dreiling in 33rd place (22:54.96). 

LeaAnn Myers placed 38th (23:11.26), while Ane' Archuleta was 40th (23:21.25), Rachel Foreman was 43rd (24:11.95), Cassandra Valenzuela was 44th (24:18.63) and Alyssa Wilson  was 54th (27:51.12) for McPherson.

MidAmerica Nazarene had five of the top six runners in the women's race to finish with a near-perfect score of 17. Sterling edged Tabor, 74-89, for second place. McPherson tallied 155 points.

The Bulldogs will take next weekend off from competition before heading to the Fort Hays State University Tiger Open at the Sand Plum Nature Trail near Victoria.
