After some much-needed time off to heal up and get their legs under them, the McPherson Bullpups’ boys soccer team returns to the pitch Thursday night hosting Mulvane at McPherson Stadium.
The JVs start the action at 4:00, with the varsity match at 5:30, which will be broadcast on 96.7 KBBE with Voice of the Bullpups Jim Joyner on the call.
The game kicks off the second half of the season and five of the remaining eight games will be at home. The Bullpups are 5-3, all the losses by a single goal and on the road.
“Our next two games are against teams we should be able to handle, but those are often the most frustrating because I want to see our team play at a high level and to our potential,” said MHS coach Chris Adrian, whose team follows up Thursday’s game with a Tuesday home date with El Dorado. “We still have a few injured players that will hopefully be able to get some much-needed rest this week and be ready to go soon. We’ve been working hard on some new things in practice over the past week and I’m looking forward to how well we can incorporate those changes into the game Thursday.”
Once MHS plays Mulvane and El Dorado, perhaps the two easiest games on the schedule, things get more difficult in a hurry.
“The second half of the season is going to be just as difficult as the first,” Adrian said. “We have a stretch where we play Salina South, Hutchinson, Buhler and Valley Center in the span of seven days and that will be a defining week of our season. This team is really starting to come together nicely and I’m starting to see a lot more combinations between players as everyone is becoming comfortable in their new positions.”
