The four-game, season-opening winning streak for the McPherson eighth-grade football team came to an end here Thursday as powerhouse Salina Lakewood rolled to a 61-14 victory.
Aiden Hoover threw touchdown passes of 60 yards to Trey Buckbee and 55 yards to Collin Pearson for the MMS scores. Hoover also had a 2-point conversion.
“Our kids played hard and never gave up,” MMS coach TJ Jackson said. “When you lose you can still show growth as people and they have done just that. I must have missed something on our end because our kids just didn't seem like we had them prepared. That is our fault entirely.”
Jackson added there were still some good performances despite the score.
“Even on a rough day it's important to note efforts from guys like Collin Pearson, Jace Minier and Jayden Dukes,” Jackson said. “It's fun to see these kids learn to never quit. Many others gave everything they had today as well.”
