McPherson High’s Ben Pyle will be playing Division I basketball next season.

Pyle, a senior, announced Saturday that he has orally committed to Western Illinois University for the 2018-19 season.

Pyle, a 6-7 swingman who averaged 22 points a game as a junior in sparking the Bullpups to a Class 4A Division I runner-up finish, made his announcement on Twitter.

“Extremely blessed and excited to announce my commitment to WIU,” Pyle tweeted.

Pyle is expected to be one of the Top 5 seniors in Kansas this season after making second-team All-State All-Class last year. He has been a mainstay since his freshman year when he was a member of McPherson High’s undefeated state championship team.

The Bullpups bring back their entire team from last year as they had no seniors.

Western Illinois once was coached by McPherson native Brad Underwood, now at Illinois. Also, former Bullpup All-Stater Matt Robins played for the Leathernecks.
