WICHITA — The McPherson Aqua Pups kicked off another short course swimming season this past weekend with the “Battle In ICT,” hosted by the Wichita Aqua Shocks.
“If this was any indicator, it is going to be really exciting to see how the swimmers progress throughout the season,” McPherson coach Kyle Banman said.
Jordyn Jester, Zoe Jester, Cole Mason and Vincent Wuertz were spotlighted for competing in their first career events.
Here are the highlights in Banman’s words:
• A job very well done to Danica Brunk on winning the 11-year-old high point award, her seconnd in a row at this meet after taking the 10-year-old top spot a year ago. She took first on 5 of her 9 swims, and cut time in 8.
•Rachel Fischer and Hazel Wuertz both earned their first-ever district times on 50 Breast
•Liberty Hampton got the short course champ cut on 100 Back at 1:27.12
•Justus Hampton improved both his district cuts on 50 Free and 100 Fly
•Claire Schmidt earned district times on 100 Free and 100 IM
•Lexi Smith improved her 50 free district time by 3.13.
•Aren Trost earned district cuts on 100 Free and 100 Breast.
•Kierstan Trost improved her district time on 100 Back and 50 Free and also added the 100 Fly (Short Course) to her district collection
•Brayden Beckman swam his first-ever short course meet with this one.
•Ashton Hampton cut 28.5 on on her 100 Free
•Bree Pickerell went 3 for 4 on best times, biggest of which was a 6.06 cut on 50 Breast
•Olivia Smolik cut time on all three of her swims, with 11.85 off on 100 Free and 13.28 on 100 IM
•Adyson Wiens dropped or had new times on 5 of 7, with a 5.77 improvement on 100 Free.
•Clay Wilson dropped or had new times on all 4 of his swims, with a 24.01 cut on 100 Free.
• Hailey and Megan Cutting excelled. Hailey took 1st on the 50 Free, and Megan was in the top 6 on all 4 of her swims.
