KANSAS CITY, Mo. — United Soccer Coaches (formerly the NSCAA) announced on Thursday its Team Academic Award winners, recognizing exemplary performance in the classroom during the 2016-17 academic year.
A total of 813 collegiate teams (282 men, 531 women) earned the Team Academic Award, including both McPherson College programs. McPherson was one of 195 schools — and three in the KCAC (Ottawa, Oklahoma Wesleyan) — that had both their men's and women's programs among the recipients.
Additionally, women's teams from Friends, Kansas Wesleyan and Southwestern achieved the honor.
In order to qualify for the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award, a program must post a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The McPherson men posted a team GPA of 3.16, while the Bulldog women posted a 3.15 team GPA.
