GYPSUM — It was a casual stroll through the park for Hesston High’s volleyball team on Thursday — except for one close set — as the Swathers are now 20-2.
The Swathers swamped St. Xavier by a pair of 25-4 scores, then defeated Southeast of Saline 25-20, 25-11.
“This was a good night for us as we were able to sustain positive energy throughout most of the evening,” Hesston coach Jason Peters said. “We tried a different lineup against St. Xavier and the girls were able to adjust well. Against Southeast of Saline, we had some communication errors and some tentativeness in the first set, but it was a great battle that we were able to pull it out in the end. Southeast played very scrappy and had some hitters doing some things we haven’t seen that much of this season, so it was good for us to have to focus and adjust.”
Peters said the Swathers played much better in the second set to close it out in dominating fashion.
There’s no rest for the Swathers as they play Saturday in the Council Grove Invitational, with Jefferson West, Wamego and Clearwater the teams in their pool.
