McPherson’s seventh-grade football team battled Hutchinson to a standoff in regulation here Thursday before losing 20-14 in overtime.

MMS is now 3-3 on the year with one game left to play here next Thursday against Valley Center.

“The guys played a tough game,” MMS coach Brandt Busse said. “I was proud of their effort and the fight they had to never give up. Unfortunately we had some things not go our way and we didn't come away with the win. Offensively we moved the ball pretty efficiently, but some penalties hurt our big plays. Defensively we had some chances to stop them on some fourth-down plays and just couldn't quite get it done.”

Mason Miller had a rushing touchdown, with Sam Becker scoring a 2-point conversion. Hadlee Backhus passed to Hunter Alvord for the other score.
