LINDSBORG — McPherson High’s girls tennis team dominated the Smoky Valley Class 4A Regional Tournament on Saturday, qualifying its entire team for state in the process.

The Bullpups scored 21 points to easily leave Abilene (13), Buhler (9) and the rest of the field far behind. Chapman and Smoky Valley were next with 5 apiece, while three teams didn’t score and Larned had a single point.

MHS’ Maisie Edmonson and Taylor Bruce were barely tested all weekend in doubles. Their two matches Saturday resulted in 6-2, 6-4 and 6-1, 6-0 wins. The Bullpups’ No. 2 team also moves on as Ashley Achilles and Cheyann Williams had a good day Saturday, coming back to take fifth. They won their fifth-place match in close fashion, 7-5, 7-5.

In singles, MHS’ CeAnna Allen outlasted teammate Rachel Carlson in a thrilling three-setter in the semifinals and Allen wound up taking second, losing 6-3, 6-2 in the finals. Carlson helped her state seed by taking third place, defeating Smoky Valley state qualifier Kira Haxton.

The state meet will be contested Friday and Saturday in Pratt.
