VICTORIA — The McPherson College cross country teams competed in wet-and-muddy competitions Saturday morning at the Fort Hays State Tiger Open on the Sand Plum Nature Trail. The men took eighth, while the women placed 15th.
The McPherson women, who totaled 393 points in the Women's 5K race, were led by Ane' Archuleta, who posted a time of 22:09.4. Samantha Nelson was next in 22:37.0, followed by LeaAnn Myers in 22:48.1, Taylor Dreiling in 22:49.9, Rachel Foreman in 23:05.8, Cassandra Valenzuela in 24:42.9 and Alyssa Wilson in 26:12.8.
Led by a 51st-place finish from Jerod Fuller and a 53rd-place finish from Jesse Freeman, the Bulldog men totaled 222 points - finishing just five markers back of seventh-place Southwestern in the Men's 8K race. Fuller stopped the clock in 27:50.1, while Freeman posted a time of 27:52.6.
Jonathan Dominguez was next across for McPherson in 28:36.1, followed by Casey Zimmerman in 28:54.5, Felix Cervantes in 29:38.8, Kevin Boeckman in 32:31.0 and Alex Schuetz in 34:18.3.
Up next for the Bulldogs is the NAIA Midstates Classic on Saturday, Oct. 21, in Winfield. The meet will serve as the final tune-up before the KCAC Championships, which will be held Saturday, Nov. 4, at Rolling Acres Golf Club north of McPherson.
