HESSTON — Hesston High will have five participants in the Class 3-2-1A State Tennis Tournament that begins Friday in Prairie Village.
Halle Krehbiel (21-4) will compete in singles after taking third in the regional last week.
The Swathers will be strong in doubles as Makaiya Russell and Ashley Hubbard (22-4) won the regional title last week, and Kylie Martin and Michaela Martin were third (18-4).
Doubles appears to be wide open. Victoria’s Megan Karst and Brooklynn Kuhn have the best record of 19-1. Other regional champs last week were Keira Knoflicek and Juliet Bartels of Prairie Village (21-7), and Jera Wolke and Kara Koester of Conway Springs (16-10).
Players to watch in singles are last week’s regional champs Emily Ryan of Central Plains (29-2), Lilly McNeal of Kansas City Christian (21-2), Sabrina Bellar of Conway Springs (21-4) and Hannah Radke of Victoria (30-1).
Elyria Christian’s Makenzie Archer (24-11) is the Eagles’ first-ever state representative. She was fifth in the regional last week in singles.
Kansas City Christian, Hesston, Conway Springs and Victoria all have a shot at the team title.
