PRATT — McPherson High’s Maisie Edmonson and Taylor Bruce are one victory away from playing for the Class 4A state doubles championship.

Edmonson and Bruce won both their matches on Friday during the first day of the Class 4A State Tennis Tournament.

They won 6-3, 6-3 over Avery Rusk and Rylee Rusk of Wellington in their first match, then outlasted Independence’s Piper Marquez and Kadyn King 6-0, 4-6, 6-1.

They now take on Sydney Lair and Hannah Geoffroy in today’s semifinals, the Collegiate team that many believe was the best going in. On the other side of the bracket, Arkansas City’s Kelsie Burr and Chassidy Weathers look to be the team to beat as they stormed to two easy wins. They play Wellington’s Mckenna Adams and Kylie Aufdengarten in the semifinals.

MHS’ doubles team of Ashley Achilles and Cheyann Williams lost in the first round 6-2, 6-3, then were ousted in a close consolation match, 9-7.

CeAnna Allen is still alive on the singles side. She lost her first match 6-4, 6-1, and then had to play teammate Rachel Carlson in an elimination match, winning 9-3. Carlson had lost her first match 6-1, 6-4.
