IOWA CITY, Iowa — McPherson High’s Mya Kretzer captured the championship of the 127-pound class in the “Conflict at Carver” as she was part of the Kansas Girls National Wrestling Team.

Kretzer is ranked No. 4 in the nation for her weight class. The event featured many All-American wrestlers.

MHS’ Haley Schafer and Kaleigh Marbut also were part of the Kansas team. According to MHS coach Doug Kretzer, they competed well but did not place.

Team Kansas wound up taking fifth place in the 12-team dual event on Sunday. It defeated Nebraska (46-6), Missouri (46-6) and Iowa (38-12). It lost to Illinois (29-24) and Texas (27-19).

Kansas had 11 girls take part and there were more than 200 who competed in all. Of the 10 weight classes, Kansas had three champions and five placers.

It was great experience for the MHS trio as they combined to wrestle 25 high-level matches.
