SW men, Tabor women favored in KCAC

WICHITA — For one of the rare times, Southwestern College’s men were the choice of the coaches and media to win the KCAC basketball championship, according to polls taken during Tuesday’s Media Day.

Southwestern received 8 of 17 media votes, with Tabor receiving 3. York, Oklahoma Wesleyan and McPherson College all received a vote.

The coaches see it as a two-team race with Southwestern (8) and Tabor (4) the only teams to receive first-place votes.

Even with their first-place vote, the Bulldogs were only 8th by the media and 9th by the coaches. Bethany was 9th by the media and 10th by the coaches.

• TABOR WOMEN FAVORED — The Tabor women were installed as a solid favorite by the media and coaches.

The Bluejays dominated the media poll with 12 first-place votes. Saint Mary was second and Friends was third with 146, including 4 first-place votes.

McPherson College tied for eighth from the media and Bethany was 10th.

Tabor received 9 of 12 first-place votes from the coaches, with Friends (1) and Saint Mary (2) also receiving votes. The coaches like McPherson College at No. 9, one spot ahead of Bethany.
