HESSTON — Hesston High’s volleyball team will take a full head of steam into sub-state play on Saturday.
After winning the Clearwater Invitational last Saturday, defeating defending Class 4A champion and No. 1-ranked Rose Hill, the Swathers blew out the Wichita Defenders (25-7, 25-12) and Lyons (25-12, 25-9) on Tuesday to wrap up regular-season play.
Hesston moved its record to 34-3 and is a sub-state host.
“We were able to maintain our composure and stay focused for the most part,” Hesston coach Jason Peters said. “In three of the four sets we played, we were able to hold our opponent to scoring just two points on their serve for the set, so our side-out efficiency was very high. We had had a tough stretch the past two weeks, playing half of our matches for the season in that time.”
Kailey Jo Ince led the Hesston offense with 25 kills and Alaina Dunlavy was credited with 44 assists. Elise Kaiser had 11 digs in both matches for 22 on the night. Rylie Schilling had a terrific night serving with 9 aces.
