Buoyed by its win over Rose Hill last week, the McPherson High volleyball team climbed to No. 2 in Class 4A Division I in the final regular-season KVA poll behind none other than Rose Hill.

Rose Hill, the defending 4A state champion, lost three matches last week, including a setback to Hesston in the finals of the Clearwater Invitational. It was the first three matches the Rockets had lost this year as MHS handed them their first loss.

Louisburg is No. 3, followed by Independence and Basehor-Linwood.

Abilene is No. 6, with Hays, Chanute, Ulysses and Eudora rounding out the Top 10. Ulysses and Hays are in McPherson High’s sub-state on Saturday at Ulysses.

Hesston also moved up a spot this week to No. 3 in Class 3A, trailing Central Kansas League rival Kingman and Silver Lake, the team that beat Hesston in the finals of the 3A State Tournament last year.

Inman dropped out of the 2A rankings this week.
