McPherson College’s men’s soccer team unloaded on Saint Mary during Wednesday’s Senior Night at McPherson Stadium to move to 7-2 in the KCAC with two matches left to play.
The Bulldogs scored two goals in the first half, then went wild in the second half with five goals.
Chris Kelly had an incredible game with two goals and two assists. Scoring singletons were Edward Gomez, Ian Canevari, Greg Roller, Sadam Ali and Tyler Minney.
Ali also was spectacular as he assisted on three of the goals as the Bulldogs are now 8-6 overall as they played a tough non-KCAC schedule.
"What a special way to honor these great group of seniors," said Mac coach Doug Quint, whose team has eight on its roster. "It was an enjoyable night all-around. The team in the attacking third was clinical in front of goal. We finished 70 percent of our chances and showed nice composure on ball. (It is) certainly a great result for us as we head into the final two regular season games of the year."
The Bulldogs, who already have a home KCAC Tournament quarterfinal match clinched, face York College (5-9-1, 3-5-1 KCAC) on Saturday at the Cornerstone Soccer Complex in York, Nebraska. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m.
• MAC WOMEN 1, SAINT MARY 0 — The Bulldogs moved back to .500 overall at 7-7 and inched closer to .500 in the KCAC at 4-5 as Ana Guerrero scored in the 74th minute to break a scoreless tie.
“Sometimes you have those games when you do not play your best," Mac coach Mark Olson said on a night his team honored its four seniors. "Tonight it was not pretty, but we fought through it and got the goal for the win. I am very proud of our senior class and so happy that it was our seniors — Ana and Danielle (Kakebeen) — who were involved with the winning goal."
Mac has a chance to pick off a team ahead of it in the KCAC standings on Saturday when it goes to York College.
