EMPORIA — Hesston High has a chance to take that final step.

The Swathers once again qualified for the Class 3A State Volleyball Final Four on Friday at White Auditorium. Last year they made it to the finals, where they lost to Silver Lake.

In pool play today, the Swathers won a tiebreaker to take first in their pool as they had a 2-1 record, as did Silver Lake and Nemaha Central. Erie was 0-3.

Hesston routed Erie 25-9, 25-14 to open play, then lost to Silver Lake in a three-setter, 25-18, 17-25, 19-25.

Then facing elimination, Hesston defeated Nemaha Central, 25-20, 25-19.

Silver Lake wound up being the odd team out.

Hesston will take on Thomas More Prep in one 10 a.m. semifinal on Saturday, while Nemaha Central goes up against Cheney in the other.  Thomas More Prep was the top seed going into Friday.

Cheney did not lost a set in going 3-0 in its pool, including a straight-sets win over Thomas More Prep. Beloit was 1-2 and Wellsville is 0-3.
