BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — Bethany College’s men’s basketball team kicked off the Dan O’Dowd era on Friday with an 80-77 loss to Sooner Athletic Conference member St. Gregory’s in the Oklahoma Wesleyan Classic.

The Swedes led by as many as 10 points in the first half, but the Cavaliers stormed back.

The loss spoiled a terrific game by the Swedes’ Tyler Larkin, who scored 28 points. Abilene freshman Ryan Wilson came off the bench for 16.

Larkin also led the team in rebounds with 6.

The Swedes should have no trouble today as they take on Central Christian College of the Bible in Bartlesville.

• Pittsburg State women 91, Bethany 48 – The Swedes played an exhibition game Friday against NCAA Division II member Pittsburg State and hung tough for a quarter.

The Gorillas led only 17-14 after 10 minutes, but then swamped Bethany with a 22-2 second quarter.

The game does not count on Bethany’s record since it’s an exhibition.

Tehya Peters led the Swedes with 11 points. Bethany coach Keith Ferguson used his entire roster and no player received more than 20 minutes.

The Swedes are home for real today to take on Midland at 6 p.m. at Hahn Gym.
