WAMEGO — McPherson High sophomore Natalie Hedlund now has a taste of what state cross country is all about.

Next year she hopes to bring home one of the medals.

Hedlund, who qualified for state as an individual, took 26th place on Saturday in the Class 4A meet at Wamego Country Club in 21:06.5. The Top 20 earn medals.

MHS coach Aspen Lott was pleased with her performance and knows with this year of experience that Hedlund will be a major factor next year.

Lott returns her entire girls team that was on the cusp of advancing to state.

Chapman’s amazing freshman Taylor Briggs, who ran away from the field in last week’s regional at Rolling Acres Golf Course, was the individual champion. She ran 18:46.31 to win by 13 seconds over Independence’s Renee Trout.

Baldwin was the team winner.
