Swather spikers take 3rd in 3A

EMPORIA — Hesston High bounced back from a semifinal loss to eventual champion Thomas More Prep to take third place on Saturday in the Class 3A State Volleyball Tournament.

The Swathers lost 21-25, 24-26 verdicts to TMP, but came back to hammer Nemaha Central 25-20, 25-7 in the third-place match. The win was their 40th as they finished the year 40-5.

Hesston was second in the state last year.

The Swathers finished the tournament with a 3-2 record and had three players on the All-Tournament Team — Kailey Jo Ince, Alaina Dunlavy and Mia Loganbill.

TMP defeated Cheney in three sets for the title.
