Swede cagers split on Saturday

LINDSBORG — The Bethany College men’s basketball team continued its alternating season.

The Swedes have lost every other game as Saturday they dropped to 2-3 with an 83-69 setback to Langston University at Hahn Gym.

The Lions led 38-29 at the half and improved on the lead after the break.

Tyler Larkin led the Swedes with 13 points, while Abilene freshman Ryan Wilson added 11, as did Thomas Hood.

The Swedes will head to north for a two-game road trip next weekend, playing Friday at Mount Marty College in South Dakota and Saturday at No. 18-ranked Briar Cliff in Sioux City Iowa. The Swedes then begin KCAC play on Nov. 15 hosting Bethel.

• BETHANY WOMEN 75, GRACE UNIVERSITY 56 — In Omaha, Neb., the Swedes evened their record at 2-2.

The Swedes made a statement in the first quarter by erupting for a 24-10 lead and moved it to 34-22 at the half.

Samirah Miller led a balanced Bethany offense with 13 points. Former Great Bend standout Lauren Welsch scored 12 and Marissa Pope added 11.

Bethany plays this upcoming weekend in the York Classic, taking on Peru State on Friday and Bellevue on Saturday.
