LINDSBORG — Central Christian College’s wrestling team competed on Saturday in the Swede Open, hosted by Bethany College.

Devontae Fitzgerald competed in the 149-pound class, going 2-2.

At 165, JP Krussick also went 2-2. Also at 165, David Taylor was 0-2.

Mason McCarty competed at 174 and went 1-2.

“The Swede Open had some tough competition and we had many of our freshmen get their first college wins,” CCC coach Tom Carr said. “We also had some lapses in focus that cost us. This was a good step of building early in the season and a valuable learning experience."

Carr added that Krussick has made some big strides so far.

“JP has shown great improvement in his time at Central,” Carr said. “He got his first college win of the season and then earned a pin over Courtney Shaver of Bacone, the 14th-ranked wrestler at 165.”

Central is at Ottawa on Wednesday.
