Swede cagers split with Bethel

LINDSBORG — Bethany College’s women’s basketball team started the KCAC portion of the schedule on a positive note Wednesday with a 66-51 success against Bethel at Hahn Gym.

Marissa Pope continues to star for the Swedes as she scored a team-high 18 points and dished 4 assists. Sarah Bartel chipped in with 17 points, while Samirah Miller tallied 12 and former Canton-Galva standout Cassidy Enns yanked down 10 rebounds.

The victory pushed the Swedes past the .500 mark at 4-3 and they travel to Salina on Saturday to take on Kansas Wesleyan in the Smoky Hill Showdown.

• BETHEL MEN 79, BETHANY 71 — The news wasn’t nearly as good for the Swede men, who went down to defeat to fall to 3-5 overall.

Tyler Larkin scored 19 points for the Swedes, while Isiah Saenz chipped in with 11. Larkin also had 6 assists, while Ryan Wilson came up with 8 rebounds.

Bethany plays at arch-rival Kansas Wesleyan on Saturday.
