HOPE — Elyria Christian Junior High School’s boys basketball team started its season in style on Thursday with a 46-15 rout of Rural Vista.

The Eagles sprinted to a 20-5 first-quarter lead and it was 28-8 at the half.

“The guys played well as a team tonight and were able to find the open man for a good shot,” ECJH coach Shawn Stucky said. “After losing a deep eighth-grade class from last year, these guys have stepped up and have been working incredibly hard. Their efforts paid off tonight and I was very proud of them.”

Ben Unruh tallied 22 points to lead the Eagles.

It was a clean sweep of the day as the Eagles’ B-team was a 17-8 winner behind 6 points by Johnny Unruh.
