LINDSBORG — The Bethany College women's cross country team has been awarded the 2017 KCAC Team of Character honor.

The award was based off of the NAIA Champions of Character award and recognizes a school in each sport, as voted on by their peer coaches.

Bethany College’s women's cross country team is very encouraging to not just fellow teammates, but also other squads. The Swedes are very disciplined with their training and enjoy the aspects of dedication and commitment. The team embodies the core values of responsibility and servant leadership through their service at two children's groups, the KICK after school program and the elementary school Move Well Marathon.

Each week, the team has a discussion regarding Bethany College core values (integrity, hospitality, community, servant leadership and sustainability) and how those values intersect with the NAIA Champions of Character core values. Every Bethany College team has this weekly discussion.

The Swedes have exemplified servant leadership by participating in consistent service opportunities. The team volunteers its time to KICK, which is Kids in Christ's Kingdom after school program for elementary school children. The Swedes also participate once a week in the Move Well Marathon at the local school, Soderstrom Elementary, where they run and interact with the children as they exercise before school starts as part of a school-wide exercise program.
