HAVILAND — The Central Christian College women amazingly fired off 107 shots on Tuesday and nearly scored 100 points to record the first basketball win of the Marc Golden era.
The Tigers raced to a 98-66 victory over Barclay College.
Guard Abbie Banks made a stunning 11 3-pointers and scored 35 points to lead Central, which is now 1-4. Holly Golden added 15 points, Havanna Yannello scored 14 and Abigail Anderson added 12.
Central’s devastating press forced the Bears into 36 turnovers and the Tigers also hauled in 60 rebounds.
“Finally we came out and rebounded the basketball,” Golden said. “It was nice to see Abbie get hot early. Her 11 made 3-pointers and 35-point performance along with a double-double from Holly gave us the edge we needed tonight. We shared the ball better tonight than any other game.”
The Tigers sprinted to a 34-8 lead in the first quarter and it was 56-29 at the half.
Hopefully Central saved some of those points as it’s back in action today at Bethany College in Lindsborg. It’s an early morning for the Tigers, as game time is 11 a.m.

• CENTRAL MEN 89, BARCLAY 78 — Not much changed from the first meeting, not even the score.
CCC defeated the Bears 89-79 in the first meeting, so there was just a one-point difference in the final score.
Central improved to 5-1 behind a balanced scoring attack. Jubril Osagie led the way with 15 points (along with 15 rebounds), while LaDarius Lenard and Steve Kuminga tallied 14 apiece and Kendric Warren added 13. Kuminga also had 13 rebounds as he came off the bench for a double-double.
Central led 43-36 and could never quite put away the pesky Bears.
The Tigers get some much-needed rest as their next action isn’t until Nov. 30 when they play at Mid-America Christian in Oklahoma City. It’s the start of Sooner Athletic Conference play.
