ROSE HILL — McPherson High’s wrestling team opened its season with a 42-26 dual victory over Rose Hill on Thursday.

The Rockets were open at the final three weights, which gave MHS 18 points. The Bullpups had been open at one weight earlier.

MHS winners on the night were Mya Kretzer, Rhett Edmonson, EJ Kretzer, Scott Radke, Mason Thrash, Bailey Yarborough, Kourtney Craig and Wayne Hitt.

“It was good to finally get on the mat,” MHS coach Doug Kretzer said. “Rose Hill has some quality wrestlers and there were numerous ‘grind matches.”  Mya, Scott and Mason came out on the winning side of those ‘grinders.” Rhett and EJ looked really good, too. I was actually very pleased with all the matches we lost, all those guys really showed some guts and their effort was great. This dual is going to help us to align our practice and focus for improvement for next week. We should get a couple of our varsity guys back in the lineup who were out as well.  Next week will be a test with nine duals in three days.”
