McPherson High’s boys and girls wrestling teams had an outstanding performance in meets they hosted on Saturday.

There was a JV tournament for the boys and a varsity tournament for the girls.

“I’m really happy with how our girls and JV boys wrestled,” MHS coach Doug Kretzer said. “All of our wrestlers got plenty of matches.”

The Bullpup excelled from top to bottom.

“Some individuals on JV who really had a good day were Devin Frantz, Neill Raymond, Ian Alumbaugh, Ryder Peterson, Jonah Scott and Wayne Hitt,” Kretzer said. “These wrestlers won their bracket in the JV tournament.”

And the girls tournament had a nice turnout of teams and individuals.

“In the girls tournament there were some very high-level female wrestlers,” Kretzer said. “Girls who have done well both in state competition as well as on the national level. Girls from McPherson who really had a good day, regardless of where they finished, were Hannah Moore, Annah Turner-Simon, Olivia Morgan, Kaleigh Marbut, Caitlyn Allington, Haley Schafer and Madison Skytte. All of the McPherson girls really wrestled well, those were just a few who had some standout matches in tough brackets. I’m really pleased with how aggressive our girls team wrestled. We had a lot of first-year wrestlers who got on the mat for the first time. Numerous wrestlers got there first win. All in all it was a great day.”
