Sam Becker’s 12 points and 10 more by Hunter Alvord propelled McPherson’s seventh-grade boys to a 33-21 decision over Goddard Eisenhower here Monday, improving the team to 2-1.
“Very proud of these boys tonight,” Bullpup coach Eric Burghart said. “I asked them to outwork Goddard Eisenhower for all four quarters and we got them for three. I couldn't be more proud of the great hustle plays from every player that touched the floor tonight. We're excited to have a couple of days in a row to practice and continue building on what we showed this evening. I thought Hunter Alvord did a really nice job of controlling the tempo on the floor and helped create for his teammates to finish the play.”
The B-team is now 1-2 after a 47-28 setback. Jordan Bena’s 10 points topped the MHS chart.
“We haven't had a good day of practice since Wednesday and it showed,” Burghart said. “We came out passive in the first half, unable to handle the ball and make attacking plays to the hoop. It's going to be really hard to stay competitive if we give up 47 points. So, we all have our work cut out for us and just like the A-team, we're looking forward to two very good days of practice. I really enjoyed watching Jordan Bena compete and stay composed in a few tough situations.”
