Two road losses for 7th girls

GODDARD — It was a difficult night Monday for the McPherson seventh-grade girls basketball teams.

The A-team ran into a buzzsaw as Goddard Eisenhower inflicted a 43-9 setback. Jordan Sears’ 3 points led the way.

“We did not play our best tonight,” Bullpup coach Kaleigh Troxell said. “The Goddard Eisenhower team was tall and made it very difficult for us to score near the basket. We tried a few different lineups tonight and Emily Heskett really stepped up as someone we can depend on to play hard the entire game. This game was a learning opportunity for us and highlighted many things we can work on to get better.”

It didn’t go much better in the B-game as Eisenhower completed the sweep with a 26-5 win.

“We left Goddard with another loss, but so much positive to take away,” MMS coach TJ Jackson said. “We told the girls before the game that the No. 1 thing we wanted to see was hustle and great effort. We got that and more. From top to bottom on the lineup girls played tough defense and flew around. Offensively we moved well in our plays, but overall we just aren't scoring right now. Emily (Heskett) played a great game on both sides of the court. Her intensity is contagious and the team does a great job with her leading. I look forward to watching these girls grow and develop their skills together.”

MMS plays Thursday at Andover Central.

MMS A (9) — Sears 3, Lang 2, Kynaston 2, Dukes 2.

MMS B (5) — Heskett 2, Patterson 2, White 1.
