McPherson High wrestling coach Doug Kretzer will get a true sense of where his team is at on Thursday when it hosts a double dual in the MHS Auxiliary Gym.

It’s MHS first home event of the season.

MHS and Chapman square off at 5:00, Chapman and Smoky Valley should go about 6:15 and then county schools MHS and Smoky Valley tangle about 7:30.

Kretzer’s team is 1-0, having opened with a victory over Rose Hill. But he didn’t have his full team for that match as three starters were not available.

“Our team should be at full strength for the duals, which will be great,” Kretzer said. “We're ready to get Brynton (Crews), Seth (Morgan) and Jonah (Clarke) back in the lineup.”

The Bullpups figure to get a good test from both teams.

“Looking at results from the opening week, Chapman was open at 113 and Smoky Valley was open at 120, 126, 138 and 220,” Kretzer said. “Chapman has some tough wrestlers in their lineup at with the Henderson brothers, Paluso, Lemon and Ferris.  We're looking forward to those matchups. We will finish up with Smoky Valley. Smoky Valley has quite a few opens, but Dax Hopp, Cort Elliott and Ethan Wampler are good kids. We love wrestling at home and are excited to get after it in front of our electric home crowd.”

MHS will then head to Colby on Friday for a two-day event.

“Colby duals will be an 18-team event,” Kretzer said. “We open pool matchups with Hays, Eaglecrest (Colorado) , Tonganoxie (No. 3 in 4A), Blue Valley North and Valley Center (No. 5 in 5A).  After pool matchups are completed, we will wrestle in our placement pool. We will wrestle seven duals between Friday and Saturday.”
