ROELAND PARK — McPherson High’s basketball teams pushed Bishop Miege to the limit in both games on Friday, but the Stags made the plays at the end to win both exciting games in a matchup of No. 1 vs. No. 2.
The MHS girls and Miege were tied at 43-all with 5:11 left, but the Stags closed on a 16-8 run for a 59-51 victory, handing the Bullpups their first loss of the year.
Taylor Robertson was tremendous in defeat with 30 points.
In the boys game, the Bullpups led by as many as 8 in the second half, but Miege stormed back and pulled out a 48-46 victory. MHS had two chances in the final 10 seconds to tie the game, but a pair of Ben Pyle attempts were just off.
Pyle scored 15 points to lead the Bullpups and Jake Alexander added 11. MHS is now 2-1.
