DERBY — McPherson’s eighth-grade girls basketball team got back on track Monday by swamping Derby North in a pair of games.
The A-team rolled to a 48-18 victory behind 16 points by Ella Schmid and 10 more by Lauren Labertew.
“The A-team played well, they are understanding how to space the court and swing the ball from side to side and then attack on the reversal,” MMS coach Jay Crawford said. “I am excited to see the ball not stick and also playing inside-out. We still need work on our traps and get the ball in areas where we want it and rotate properly away from the ball. We are getting better and they are understanding how to attack teams.”
The B-team was a 31-4 winner as Kori Courtney’s 10 points led the way.
“The 8th grade B-team girls had a great win tonight over Derby North,” MMS coach Ellie Wingert said. “The girls played aggressively on defense and did a nice job moving the ball on offense. We still need to do a better job of rebounding, but I was proud of the way they played together as a team.”
The Bullpups finally get back home on Thursday to play a talented Hutchinson team.
